About

Tootsie Roll Drive

To Our Friends and Local Merchants,

This September 20th & 21th marks the 47th annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive to benefit those with physical and intellectual disabilities. Last year we raised over $4,500.00 to benefit local organizations such as Kreider Services, Illinois Special Olympics, and the Lee County Special Education. This year’s goal is $5,000.00 or more and we cannot do it without your help.

To meet our goal we are asking for your help with this year’s Drive in hopes your donation will offset the cost of the Tootsie Rolls. Each case of Tootsie Rolls costs us $19.50 and we order approximately 40 cases for a total expenditure of nearly $800.00. Your donations of one or more case prices will allow us give more to those deserving children who need our help and cannot help themselves.

Please consider making a tax deductable donation to the Knights of Columbus, 506 W. Third St. Dixon, IL 61021 (Attention: Patrick Gorman) OR donate online at www.KofC690.org .

As our way of saying “Thank-You” to the merchants that donate, we will put your corporate logo on our website with a link to your homepage or a copy of your business card as a way of generating extra advertising for your business. Please include a copy of your business card with your check.

We need your help to make this campaign the best ever for these kids. Please feel free to contact myself or Luke Dixon with questions, concerns, or even to volunteer to help, as that is always needed.

Respectfully,

Patrick Gorman Luke N. Dixon

SUPPORT OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Knights of Columbus Council #690 has established a scholarship program to provide full tuition for a low-income child in each of the Dixon Catholic elementary schools (St. Mary and St. Anne Catholic schools).

The purpose of this scholarship is to give a Catholic education to a child who would otherwise not have the financial resources to attend a Catholic school. The ultimate goal is to renew this scholarship annually to support each child through all eight years of their elementary education.

Through generous support from the community, we were able to send our first student to St. Mary during the 2018-2019 school year.

Tuition costs for the 2019-2020 school year are roughly $4000 per child. The total fundraising target for this year is $8000 since we are adding a scholarship at St. Anne.

As such, the Dixon Knights of Columbus ask for your continued financial support to help these children.  Please consider making a monthly donation to this scholarship program at our Patreon webpage.  Even a donation of $5 per month would make a significant impact on the longevity of this scholarship program.

Thank you!

Letter from Raphael C. Anaechedo

Dear Noble Knights.

"Man," said Karl Rayner, "is a beneficiary of another mans benevolence." What you have been to me is nothing short of an affirmation of this assertion. For this, I am indeed grateful and pray that the new decade and especially the year 2020 bring you abundance of God's blessings. May He reward you in this life and in the life to come. Amen.

Attached is the picture I took with my maternal uncle: Rev. Fr. Dr. Benjamin Ezulike, here in Nigeria. He is a Priest of Catholic Diocese of Awka who was sent on further studies to Belgium by his diocese. He came back for a short holiday. We took the picture on Sunday, 19th January, 2020 when he visited me at school to give me moral support and blessings as well.

Thank you once more for your kindness to me. May God bless and reward you abundantly and grant you all your hearts desires.

I believe you had a memorable and wonderful Christmas and thank God for bringing us into a new decade. Be assured of my prayers while I trust that you are praying for me too.

Your adopted son,

Raphael C. Anaechedo

Tootsie Roll Drive Sponsers

Thank you kindly to Raynor Door Authority, Kitzmans, Balayti Painting, and Always Flow, who sponsored our Tootsie Roll Drive fundraiser. We are ever grateful for their contribution!

Santa Visits Our Council

Santa visited our area on December 19 to deliver letters and gifts to fifteen lucky kids. Thank you to Jonathon Smith for working with Santa to arrange the event, and to Patty and Priscilla Smith for helping Santa make the day a success. It was a great way to continue a Council 690 tradition in a safe manner, in spite of the pandemic.
